About Biscayne National, Miami, FL
Beautiful Biscayne National Park on the South East coast of Florida on the Atlantic Ocean is a preserved and energizing place where hundreds of species of bird, insect, and plant, native and exotic, make their homes. Within its 180,000 acres are natural wonders to be treasured.
Nearly ninety-five percent of the acreage of Biscayne National Park is underwater, providing opportunities for great water sport such as snorkling, sailing, diving, fishing, boating, swimming, and waterskiing. There are ship wrecks and extensive corals to explore, and the waters are home to over 200 species of fish. Ranger-led tours are offered, including glass-bottom boating and informal front porch talks and nature walks.
Native Americans, including the original Tequesta Tribe, called this beautiful land home. The Spanish explored and pirates are said to have buried treasure on the islands of the keys. One of the most popular tours is the tour of the Chita Key called "millionaire's retreat" with its beautiful light houses.
Biscayne preserves some of the finest sub-tropical forests on the continent. It is sanctuary to hundreds of birds, including the breathtaking White Ibis and Brown Pelican. The Arsenicker Keys in particular provide seasonal homes for such beautiful birds as Snowy Egrets and Blue Heron. Butterflies like floating flowers delight in the hundreds of plant varieties. Sea turtles are protected here, and the hardwood hommocks, as the forests are known, are home for several endangered species of wildlife.
Biscayne National Park offers beauty unabashedly and abundantly.
